I am a gay man and an optometrist. Throughout my career I have been active in many organizations that promote diversity and inclusion in and out of the medical field namely the Office of Multicultural and Diversity affairs at the University of Florida and PRISM (an LGBTQ optometric association) at my optometry school. I already regularly treat members of the LGBTQ community. During my residency at a Veteran’s Affairs hospital I worked with LGBTQ+ veterans, helping them access care and have experience discussing resources to access LGBTQ+ health care for people of all backgrounds. At my current office we ask pronouns and have multiple LGBTQ staff members, including office training on diversity and inclusion. While often eye care is the same regardless of sexual orientation or identity, our office puts an emphasis on making sure everyone who walks in the door feels welcome and included. So if you are looking for eye/vision services and want to know you will be respected for who you are we would love to have you!
