I have been a licensed massage therapist in the state of NC for 14 years.
I am certified in and specialize in Manual Lymphatic Drainage for post-surgical procedures, and I work with women, non-binary, and trans clients. (I hold a certification from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies or ACOLS.)
I am a cis-gendered, pansexual, neurodivergent white woman. I have ADD and am on the autism spectrum but was not diagnosed until my late 30’s/early 40’s.
As someone who is neurodivergent (and was questioning my sexuality) – growing up in a small, Southern, conservative town I often dealt with bullying and was an outsider. As I got older, I realized that I had a very hypervigilant nervous system and struggled with dysthymia, depression, and panic attacks. For many years I didn’t understand why I exhibited these symptoms of trauma. What I realized is that being undiagnosed as autistic was in many ways traumatic for me as a child.
It’s this lived experience that lead me to offer massage and MLD from a trauma-informed perspective.
Many LGBTQIA+ clients I work with have come from a background of trauma in some way or another. Bodywork is exceptionally helpful for calming a hypervigilant nervous system and helping the body relearn how to feel safer in the world. It also can help clients reclaim the space in their bodies as their own.
I have a great deal of privilege and cannot know what it is like to grow up in a body different from my own, but I do deeply empathize with others who have felt excluded or unseen and had difficulty finding and integrating their authentic selves.
It is of the utmost importance for me to provide a safe space for all clients to feel seen, accepted, and safe. I am particularly present for clients undergoing surgery, who may have coped with gender dysphoria. To make the transformation to the self that you’ve always envisioned is sacred. And to be able to help clients heal on that journey is an honor that I do not take lightly.
I am Safe-Zone certified, have training specific to recovery for plastic and cosmetic surgery, and have taken training specific to recovery from Top Surgery from Egan McGee (they/them)Dip. Remedial Masage.
