Allow me to introduce myself and shed light on my journey, including my identities, perspectives, and experiences, as well as the LGBTQ+ services and education I provide.
For nearly a decade, my professional path as an Oncology Nurse Practitioner led me to work closely with renowned physicians from institutions such as Emory Winship Cancer Institute, Georgia Cancer Center of Excellence, and Cancer Treatment Centers for America. While my work with cancer patients was undeniably rewarding, I noticed a significant gap in the approach to recovery and the often overlooked aspect of cosmetic restoration, particularly concerning scars resulting from life-changing events such as trauma, cancer, surgeries, and childbirth.
It became apparent to me that these scars had profound effects on my patients’ mental health and self-esteem. Many individuals, particularly women, confessed to a loss of confidence in their bodies, and I couldn’t ignore the need for a more holistic approach to their well-being.
During a follow-up appointment, a breast cancer survivor shared her frustration with me. She desired an areola tattoo to make her breast implants appear more natural, but she struggled to find anyone who provided this service. I decided to assist her, assuming her difficulties were related to online searches. To my surprise, I uncovered an almost untouched and underrepresented market, with only a handful of artists offering medical tattoos. This discovery left me both shocked and excited.
As someone who has struggled with hormonal acne, I have personally experienced how body image issues can profoundly impact a person’s confidence, affecting various aspects of their life. Studies have demonstrated that physical restoration can be as influential on mental health, self-esteem, and body positivity as any other form of therapy or treatment. I interpreted this as a sign from the Universe, guiding me to embark on a new journey specializing in medical tattoos. After months of dedicated research, adhering to industry standards, and participating in classes to develop my unique technique, I founded SCAR Alchemy.
Throughout my journey as the founder of SCAR Alchemy, I’ve gained recognition on social media platforms with over 9 million views on Instagram. I’ve had the privilege of assisting more than 300 individuals in regaining their confidence. Furthermore, I’ve provided educational opportunities both online and in-person, reaching students from various cities across the U.S. It’s essential to note that I maintain one of the most ethnically diverse portfolios among camouflage tattoo artists in North America.
I’ve seamlessly combined my ten years of experience as a medical provider, my passion for art, and my innate healing abilities to empower individuals, including those within the LGBTQ+ community, in embracing greater confidence in their bodies. My mission is to offer a second chance at restoration, enabling you to hide less and live more. I eagerly await the opportunity to meet a more confident version of you. Let’s embark on this transformative journey together!
