I’ve been working as a therapist since 2004, and am currently licensed to provide telehealth counseling in North Carolina and South Carolina. I started my career working with children, but gradually shifted towards adults as I saw the need for more affirming providers, especially here in the South. As a bisexual woman who didn’t realize her identity until later in life, I can understand the struggles of not quite knowing where you belong.
The majority of my clients are neurodivergent and queer. I work through a neurodivergent-affirming lens, recognizing that whether you are ADHD or autistic, there is nothing wrong with you. The problem often is that you are living in a world that wasn’t built for your brain. Together, we can explore what your identity means to you, and how you can safely unmask. As a large percentage of autistic adults are also under the queer umbrella, much of our work may also focus on figuring out what your truth is, whether we are talking about gender or sexuality. And it’s ok not to have the answers as well. I want you to feel comfortable with who you are.
Given the amount of overlap in autistic and trans communities, I have also taken training (from a trans therapist) on writing letters for gender-affirming care and am happy to provide one if needed. When getting trainings I am always looking for trainers with lived experience, especially when it comes to LGBT+ specific trainings. And I recognize the importance of using your real name and pronouns- I have specifically selected medical records that only require legal name and pronouns if you are using insurance, and those are only displayed on forms that have to be sent elsewhere. Your deadname will not show up on appointment reminders, or even anywhere in my system except for spaces required by insurance. And I believe in open communication about how I refer to you in my records, in case there would ever be a need to release anything.
In therapy, I use a variety of techniques, and we can discuss what works best for you. I’ve had specific training in yoga for therapists, brainspotting, adult ADHD, autistic adults, and more. If you prefer more traditional talk therapy, we can do that too! My main talk modality is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT. ACT helps you identify your core values and ways to live within those. It also uses some mindfulness for those things in life that are difficult, yet we might not be able to change. There is hope that things can get better.
