True change starts with forming a trusting relationship in the therapy room. I work to get to know you as an individual, including highlighting and honoring your strengths. It’s important to recognize that thoughts and behaviors that are causing pain often helped us survive trauma in the past; we can change them without judging them. I also want to recognize and challenge the harm done by experiencing oppression; for example, internalizing societal messages about our LGBTQ+ identities and communities. I have worked intensively with people who have experienced trauma, and with people struggling with chronic pain.
My approach is evidence-based, incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and trauma-focused interventions like Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure.
I have worked as a member of a multi-disciplinary transgender care team and as the LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator at a VA hospital. I am sex-positive, kink-positive, and poly-affirming. I am also experienced at providing evaluations and letters for gender-affirming care, including surgeries.
I provide services in New York and Virginia via telehealth.
