I am Michelle Drapkin, PhD, a board certified psychologist (ABPP) with over two decades of experience providing evidence-based treatments including CBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, and more. I am a fierce ally to the LGBTQ+ community and have built my career around providing genuinely affirming, evidence based care. In addition to individual therapy, I work extensively with LGBTQ+ couples, helping them navigate communication, intimacy, and relationship challenges through an evidence-based lens. I see clients across New Jersey, New York, and 40+ states via PsyPACT.
At The CBT Center, we regularly work with LGBTQ+ individuals, same-sex couples, transgender and nonbinary clients, and their families. Affirming care is not a specialty add-on for us; it is embedded in how we work. Our team is trained in trauma-informed care, and I personally provide training and consultation to other clinicians on trauma-informed approaches. We offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy, and our entire practice culture is built around meeting clients where they are without judgment.
My clinical work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention, with specialized training in Motivational Interviewing. I hold board certifications through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A-CBT), and I am a published author and national trainer. Roughly 25% of my caseload and consultation work involves LGBTQ+ clients and providers, and I actively support other clinicians in building affirming, competent practices.
