I am a primary care pediatrician, medical educator and Professor of Pediatrics with University of Alabama (UAB) Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Alabama. I co-lead our UAB Pediatrics Multidisciplinary Gender Health Team. Here, our team provides specialty level medical and mental health care for youth ages 5-19 navigating gender dysphoria, along with robust family support and region wide resources for youth and families navigating journeys of gender.
Our team members include pediatric endocrinology, gynecology, pastoral care, psychology, social work and health educators. Our clinical care does not include surgical interventions. Gender affirming surgery is currently not obtainable in the state of Alabama for this age group.
