(any pronouns: name pronounced sath-veer)
Registered Psychologial Associate PSB#94028741 under supervision of licensed psychologist Dr. Matt Henninger (PSY 35452)
Dr. Satveer Kler (name pronounced sath-veer) identifies as a queer, Punjabi American, Sikh individual who grew up in the Bay Area on the traditional lands of the Muwekma Ohlone. Satveer was raised in an extended family of 14 and is an older sibling, a friend, a child of immigrants, an “awkward and endearing ball of anxiety”, a nerd, an educator, an avid fan of speculative fiction, and is a Taurus sun, Aries moon, and Gemini rising. Satveer received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2024 and is currently a registered psych associate at Borderlands Therapy Collective where he provides individual therapy. Satveer is also a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of psychology at Palo Alto University where they research the social processes underlying intergenerational trauma and substance use among BIPOC and LGBTQ+ BIPOC communities.
Satveer practices from liberation psychology, relational psychodynamic, narrative therapy, anti-carceral/abolitionist, and anti-oppressive approaches. Satveer believes in horizontal, rather than vertical, relationships where therapy is a space where your ancestral and cultural wisdom, embodied knowledge, strengths, lived experiences, values, beliefs, relationships to yourself/others/the world, and emotions will be attended to with earnestness and collaboration. Together, we will find the words for your story even if they initially feel distant. Together, we will imagine and dream new ways of being in relation to yourself, others, the world, systems of oppression, time, space, and healing, and new ways of being in relation to hope, liberation, and freedom.
Satveer specializes in working with BIPOC and QTBIPOC individuals, adult children of immigrants, academics and graduate students, intellectualizers / people who have been told they are “highly self-aware” by others including past therapists, individuals with complicated familial relationships, and artists/writers/poets. Satveer’s clinical areas of expertise include intergenerational trauma, anxiety, grief, identity exploration, alcohol use, disordered eating, body image, perfectionism, and shame.
