hi! I’m Shelly (pronouns she/her), and I’m looking forward to getting to you know you.
Prior to being a therapist, I was a middle school teacher and loved supporting teens in that awkward, very difficult stage of exploring who they are as humans. So when I went back to school to start my second career as a therapist, I learned that I equally love walking with people through their journeys of exploring and evolving themselves and their relationships.
I chose to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, because it allows me to understand and attend to individual mental health, relationship concerns, and systemic issues. I see how the systems and relationships we’re part of affect our mental and emotional wellbeing, and how we influence the relationships and systems. It’s all tied together, and we can’t untie ourselves from the context around us. Working with me is a collaborative process, and we decide together how to help you achieve your goals.
My expertise is in two primary areas: improving self-worth/self-love, and improving relationships. I have extensive training and experience in working with people who struggle with identity questions, anxiety, stress, workplace issues, and a wide variety of relationship issues.
My theoretical approach is integrative based on the need but include Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Attachment, Mindfulness-Based, Self-Compassion, Imago, EFT, Gottman, and Integrative Health for Mental Health. I also have training through WPATH Foundations for Healthcare Professionals. I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and other types of relationship therapy. Most of my work is virtual but I do have some limited in-person availability as well. I primarily work with humans ages 16+.
