I am a lesbian identified woman who has been married to her partner for 30 years. We have two nearly grown children. I have had the privilege of working with adolescent queer and questioning youth for over 20 years as they chose to come out and are met with love or struggle with bias and hate in their schools, communities, or families. In addition, I have developed and presented a sex positive wellness curriculum for students with varying sexual identities across the gender spectrum. As a school therapist, I have helped develop policies that support student identities and allow students to show up as their authentic selves in the classroom or on the athletic field. It has been my honor to work with parents to support and honor the gender and sexual identities of their children. Sometimes this journey has been a joyful collaboration and other times it has been fraught with transphobia, homophobia, and religiously based bias.
