I am Stacy Hixon, MA, LPC Supervisor, CCTP, and FRTP, a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Clinical Director of LifeWise Counseling and Wellness. My work is grounded in trauma informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodiversity affirming, and culturally responsive care. I work with adults, couples, families, first responders, veterans, law enforcement families, and people who have spent much of their lives feeling different, misunderstood, overwhelmed, or responsible for holding everything together.
I believe counseling should be collaborative rather than prescriptive. Clients are active participants in their care, and I value their perspectives, lived experiences, identities, relationships, and goals when developing treatment plans. I explain clinical recommendations in practical language, invite questions and feedback, and encourage clients to help shape the direction and pace of therapy. My role is not to decide who someone should become. It is to help them better understand themselves, identify patterns, develop effective skills, strengthen relationships, and make changes that are meaningful to them.
My clinical approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, solution focused therapy, psychodynamic approaches, trauma focused interventions, psychoeducation, emotional regulation, nervous system education, boundary work, and practical coping strategies. I adapt treatment to the individual rather than expecting every client to fit one therapeutic model. Clients are never required to disclose or relive traumatic experiences before they are ready.
LGBTQIA+ affirming care is an important part of my practice. I provide a nonjudgmental environment where clients can discuss identity, relationships, family dynamics, discrimination, minority stress, trauma, boundaries, life transitions, or concerns completely unrelated to their LGBTQIA+ identity. I do not view sexual orientation or gender diversity as conditions requiring treatment. My goal is to provide care in which clients do not have to educate their counselor or defend who they are before meaningful therapeutic work can begin.
I also have specialized experience working with first responders, veterans, and law enforcement families. As the spouse of a law enforcement professional and military veteran, I understand that occupational culture, cumulative exposure to trauma, shift work, hypervigilance, burnout, relationship strain, and difficulty transitioning between work and home can affect both the individual and the family. My First Responder Treatment Provider training further informs this work.
I hold certifications as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and First Responder Treatment Provider and regularly complete continuing education related to trauma, mental health, ethics, clinical supervision, neurodivergence, and culturally responsive counseling. As an LPC Supervisor, I also provide clinical supervision and professional development for emerging counselors.
In addition to clinical work, I am involved in developing Steel Armor Mindset, a trauma informed resilience and mental readiness initiative for first responders, veterans, command staff, and their families. The project focuses on practical education, emotional regulation, resilience, identity, boundaries, trauma responses, and the transition between professional and personal roles.
At LifeWise Counseling and Wellness, my goal is to make mental health care feel human, practical, respectful, and accessible. I believe successful counseling is not measured by how long someone remains in therapy. It is measured by whether they leave with greater understanding, stronger skills, healthier relationships, and more confidence in their ability to navigate life.
