I am Amanda Ezell, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH). I am the owner of Prism Counseling Services, LLC, where I provide affirming, inclusive, sex-positive, and trauma-informed mental health counseling for adults. I am licensed to provide counseling in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, offering telehealth services throughout all three states as well as in-person counseling in Daleville, Alabama.
A significant focus of my clinical and professional work is providing knowledgeable, affirming care to LGBTQ+ individuals and people whose identities, relationships, sexuality, or communities have historically been misunderstood or pathologized within healthcare settings. I believe clients should be able to enter therapy without having to first educate their therapist about LGBTQ+ identities, kink and BDSM, consensual non-monogamy (CNM), polyamory, or other alternative relationship structures before meaningful therapeutic work can begin.
My clinical practice includes work with trauma, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, and other concerns affecting emotional well-being. I also provide gender-affirmation letters when appropriate and ongoing therapeutic support for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse clients navigating transition, identity exploration, and related concerns. My approach is LGBTQ+ affirming, kink and BDSM affirming, sex-positive, CNM and polyamory knowledgeable, and culturally responsive. I recognize that gender identity, sexual orientation, consensual sexual expression, kink, and relationship structure are not inherently pathological. When these aspects of a client’s life are relevant to therapy, they can be discussed openly and without judgment rather than automatically being treated as the cause of psychological distress.
In addition to my clinical practice, I am actively involved in counselor education, professional advocacy, community mental health, and LGBTQ+ community initiatives. My professional interests include LGBTQ+ affirmative counseling and counselor education, kink and BDSM-affirming clinical practice, ethical treatment of consensually non-monogamous and polyamorous clients, trauma-informed care, sexuality, and reducing stigma within mental health services.
I am also involved in professional education and presentations designed to increase clinicians’ knowledge and competency when working with populations that have often received inadequate attention in traditional counselor training. My work includes education related to ethical, kink-affirming clinical practice and helping mental health professionals distinguish consensual BDSM and power exchange dynamics from abuse without pathologizing consensual adult sexuality.
Beyond private practice, I am a co-founder and Executive Director of Prism Counseling & Community Services, a nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to mental health support, inclusive community spaces, education, peer support, outreach, and resource navigation. Through this work, I have been involved in developing and supporting LGBTQ+ community programming and other initiatives intended to reduce isolation, strengthen community connection, and improve access to affirming resources.
I remain committed to continued professional education and to improving the quality of mental health care available to LGBTQ+ people and other communities that have historically encountered stigma or misunderstanding in healthcare. My goal is to provide a therapeutic environment where clients can bring their whole selves into the room and focus on the concerns that actually matter to them rather than wondering whether their therapist will understand or judge who they are.
I currently provide telehealth counseling to adults located throughout Alabama, Georgia, and Florida and in-person services in Daleville, Alabama. I accept select insurance plans as well as private-pay clients. Prospective clients are encouraged to visit the Prism Counseling Services website for current information regarding services, insurance participation, availability, and scheduling.
