As a Texas native and resident, Dr. Audrey Zatopek, Ph.D., LPC-S, LCDC, NCC, CYT-200 trained in Brainspotting, EMDR, Hypnosis, Parts & Memory Therapy, Revisioning, and will have completed Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1 training in May 2025. She has a B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin, a M.A. in Counseling from Houston Graduate School of Theology, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education program from Texas Tech University (TTU). Dr. Zatopek received the 2024 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), an award given to one awardee each year, for her doctoral dissertation titled “Discovering Counselor Experiences of Receiving Dissociation Education During Masters Coursework: A Quantitative Study” due to the findings suggesting a significant gap in counselor education as it pertains to dissociation and dissociative disorders. Through a variety of trainings, she has also completed over 200 hours of training related to trauma and dissociation. She frequently attends continuing education events to stay current in her knowledge of best as well as empirical practices in the counseling field. She has a varied work history involving working at a Christian not-for-profit center, psychiatric hospitals, a residential substance abuse treatment facility, jail, at the probation department, and in private practices with people from various backgrounds, different age groups, and from the LGBTQIA+ community. Currently, Dr. Zatopek is working in private practice through her company, Mental Health Institute, in Texas and provides virtual counseling to individuals. She serves as an adjunct professor in master’s-level counseling programs as needed, serves in several editorial positions for counseling-related journals, and is a current member of several professional associations.
