Dr. Cardell is a leader and LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician who works from a Jungian-based Humanistic-Existential model. She is currently Treasurer of GAYLESTA (the primary LGBTQIA+ psychotherapist organization in the San Francisco Bay Area). Previous offices held were president and co-president. She is trained in biofeedback and neurofeedback, and earned her Ph.D. in Applied Psychophysiology at Saybrook University in Pasadena, CA. She loves working in the helping profession and is motivated by innovations in neuroscience. She provides LGBTQIA+ affirming psychotherapy, support for gender questioning individuals, and letters for gender affirming surgeries.
Dr. Cardell founded Sound Mind Neurofeedback Healing Center (a marriage and family therapy corporation) through which she provides both remote and in-person psychotherapy services, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, quantitative electroencephalogram (QEEG) mapping, EEG brain training, neurostimulation (LENS, tACS, tDCS, and pEMF), as well as heart rate variability training, and other interventions targeting symptoms of ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and TBI.
Other modalities and styles of psychotherapy include but are not limited to: hypnosis, CBT, DBT, ACT, Creative Expression, Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamic reflection, psychosynthesis, mindfulness-based interventions, relaxation techniques, solutions-focused and strengths-based interventions, and longer-term existential-humanistic talk therapy based on Logo-Therapy (meaning-based therapy) established by Viktor Frankl.
Sound Mind Neurofeedback operates in East Sacramento, CA. Bonnie Cardell, Ph.D., LMFT, has had previous careers in both the Arts and Technology, and has a passion for working with people recovering from traumatic brain injury. She discovered neurofeedback while recovering from brain injury (incurred in 2000), and now this modality is an integral part of her practice: combining brain science with talk therapy alongside other applied interventions to achieve symptom reduction and optimal results.
