I’m a provider who has a baseline competency in LGBTQ+ issues. While belonging to the LGBTQ+ communities can be a source of strength, it also brings unique challenges. For those who identify as LGBTQ+, it’s important to recognize how your experience of sexual orientation and gender identity relates to your mental health. I have experience serving LGBTQ+ persons and feel comfortable working with people in the LGBTQ+ communities. Some of the formal education I’ve completed include the following: Seeing Ourselves Alongside (not Beyond) Our LGBTQ+ Clients, Impacts of Trauma on Substance Use Within LGBTQ Communities, Affirming Practice with LGBTQ Youth and Families, Affirming Social Work Practice for LGBTQ+ Youth and Families, Supporting LGBTQ Elders with Substance Use Disorders, How to Evaluate and Treat LGBTQ+ Domestic Violence Offenders, Recognizing and Understanding the Assessment and Treatment Needs of Sexuality Gender Diverse (SGD) and Transgender Gender Diverse (TGD) Individuals, A Multigenerational Conversation About Substance Use in the LGBTQ Community, and LGBTQ Suicide Prevention for Families. I utilize It Gets Better Project for LGBTQ+ resources and PreventConnect to stay current on developing, implementing, and evaluating effective prevention initiatives for LGBTQ+ issues. I provide weekly group treatment services to LGBTQ+ persons. I participate in a monthly LGBTQ+ Offender DV Treatment Peer Consultation Group. I’m authentic in how I show up for my clients and seek to help meet complex treatment needs.
