As a lesbian, gray-asexual, neurodivergent, transgender woman and licensed clinical psychologist, I am deeply passionate about helping clients understand how the unique intersection of their identities, cultural backgrounds, and social context can inform experiences of trauma, sources of strength and community, and shape other life challenges. In my role as a psychologist, I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ young adults in areas that include identity development and exploration, acute and complex trauma, outpatient disordered eating, and interpersonal distress. I am particularly passionate about working with transgender women/transfemme folx, individuals on the asexual and aromantic spectra, and college students. In addition to individual therapy offerings, I also provide comprehensive adult ADHD and Autism assessments, and provide clinical supervision for doctoral externs. Working as a psychologist is actually a career shift for me and I previously worked as a biomedical engineer. The process of shifting careers, which in many ways coincide with my own gender transition journey, to find a path much more personally fulfilling has helped me find a deep enjoyment in also working with individuals who are in the process of academic major and career path exploration, or considering transition from one career path/field to another, and how motivations for these career and life transitions often intersect with our sense of self, identity exploration, and personal values.
I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at the Trauma Resilience and Education Center of Greater Washington, DC, and my predoctoral internship at the University of Maryland Counseling Center. I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and M.A. in Psychology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), and my B.A. in Psychology, B.S. Mechanical Engineering, and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida. I have helped organize multiple community-wide events on queer and transgender issues as part of campus and community organizations focusing on LGBTQ+ issues in Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, and the DC Metro Area. I have also taught several courses on LGBTQ+ and workplace diversity issues, and have a YouTube channel (The Chloe Connection) on transgender and nonbinary topics with over 1 million views.
I am also very passionate about involvement in research and writing, and have published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and professional papers, and co-authored the book Counseling in a Gender Expansive World: Resources to Support Therapeutic Practice and two entries in The SAGE Encyclopedia of Trans Studies. I have delivered over 40 presentations at international, national, and local conferences, training workshops, and professional meetings, including at conferences for the American Psychological Association (APA), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), Society for Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), Midwest LGBTQ Research Symposium, and Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Asexual College Conference (MBLGTACC). My research primarily focuses on barriers and facilitators to healthcare access for transgender people, and centering the voices and experiences of transgender and nonbinary people in the treatment and conceptualization of gender dysphoria, in addition to experiences of LGBTQ+ people during the COVID-19 pandemic, disordered eating in trans populations, and college athlete perceptions of participation of transgender athletes in intercollegiate sports. When I am not doing clinical practice or research work, you can probably find me spending time with my partner, watching horror movies, playing video games, retro video game collecting, building LEGO sets, hiking, Tarot, and spending time with my cat, Tipsy.
