Heather (they/them) is a non-binary neurodivergent person and a Florida Licensed Midwife. Their focus is on cultivating trust while providing a nurturing, safe, and affirming environment that improves prenatal and birth outcomes for queer and socially marginalized folks.
Heather came to birth-work after attending their friend’s birth as a teenager. It was through this experience navigating the healthcare system with little information and support that sparked interest in advocacy. They became a full spectrum birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator while working towards their goal of becoming a midwife. Throughout their journey, they have found a huge lack of support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and had a dream to be a part of building community and connection. They love being a part of the conception process and helping queer people build their families on their own timeline and terms.
They graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Anthropology in 2015 from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. They then went on to attend The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville, Florida graduating in 2018. They’ve since worked in a variety of out-of-hospital settings including busy birth centers and home birth practices in the Tampa Bay area.
In addition to midwifery work, they are also active in educating the future generation of doctors through teaching trauma-informed and person-centered reproductive exams at The University of South Florida.
