I currently identify as a nonbinary queer person and my past identification was lesbian. My personal life experience has included harassment in using public bathrooms and the anxiety that came along with it. Hypervigilance navigating the world outside is hard enough as it is. Healthcare needs to be accessible, safe and trauma-informed for our community. As a massage therapist, I offer a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community and have been providing medical/therapeutic massage therapy services to the greater Seattle area since 2007. I believe there is work to do around education to massage providers about specific needs of trans and nonbinary persons in an outpatient massage therapy setting. I would also like to mention the more marginalized BIPOC LGBTQIA+ community and the need for understanding intersectional allyship in regards to equity-based and trauma-informed healthcare.
