Dr. Jo A. Hughes, DMSc, PA-C, CAQ-Psychiatry
I am a certified Physician Assistant since 2009, as a generalist and earned her psychiatric board certificate of added qualifications (CAQ-PSY) in 2014. I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan earning a bachelor’s degree of Business Administration in early 1990’s. I returned to school in the early 2000’s to earn my Master of Medical Science degree for PAs from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I recently acquired my Doctor of Medical Science degree with psychiatric focus in spring of 2023. I am certified to treat a variety of substance use disorders and incorporate Medication-Assistant Treatment (MAT/buprenorphine) to treat opioid use disorders specifically.
I believe in collaborative partnerships with my patients, providing a non-judgement, safe space for psychiatric care and counseling . I provide psychiatric assessments, medication management, and various therapeutic techniques to promote wellness for patients suffering from OCD, PTSD, ADHD, MDD, Anxiety, Bipolar and Schizophrenic disorders. I specialize in the treatment of children (ages 5 and up) and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and all levels of autism spectrum disorders.
I have lived in Greensboro, North Carolina for past 23 years with my family. When I am not working, I am advocating and supporting my intellectually disabled adult daughter and my other daughter, her wife and their beautiful baby boy.
