I opened my private practice in January of 2011 with the aim to serve “sex and gender outlaws”* of which I am one. My internship was with Seattle Counseling Service for Sexual Minorities where I organized staff training in Polyamory and BDSM and conducted research into the needs of the partners of Trans* people.
My approach to psychotherapy comes from Object Relations Theory (a form of psychodynamics) which emphasizes the impact of relationships, particularly as they were formed in your Family of Origin. I focus on the patterns in relationships, bringing them into discussion to explore. Other influences include IFS, mindfulness, and various experiments for you to practice between sessions, bringing therapy into your life outside of my office.
*”Sex and gender outlaws” includes LGB, Trans*, Non-monogamous/poly, kink, and sex workers. I am pleased to work with all my clients, whether you want to focus on those pieces of your identity or simply want to not have to explain or defend who you are.
