Max Johnson (they/them) is Telehealth-only provider practicing at Kindred Psychology under the supervision of Rachel Oxley, MSW LICSW. Max stayed on as a full time clinician after completing their internship at Kindred Psychology for their Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP-accredited) degree at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Throughout their time at Kindred Psychology, Max has gained specialized experience and training working with the gender diverse and neurodivergent populations. They enjoy working with individuals through struggles related to these often intersecting identities, including working to manage depression, anxiety, dysphoria, autism, and ADHD symptoms.
Max often works with the emerging and young adult populations, though they see everyone from adolescents to adults. Max is particularly passionate about working with individuals who are coming to understand neurodiversity within themselves for the first time, those whose struggles may have been overlooked in their youth. As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, Max believes in every client’s capacity to grow towards self-actualization in an empathetic and accepting environment. They strive to be neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed in their practice, and to be a fellow traveler in each client’s journey of growth and self-discovery. Max utilizes evidence-based techniques from an eclectic approach, with an emphasis on person-centered therapy (PCT), mindful self-compassion (MSC), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

Max previously graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Political Science and Child, Youth, and Family Studies from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Max understands that, all too often, poor mental health can result from poor material conditions and unaccepting environments. They are passionate about social justice and structuring our society in a way that uplifts everyone.
