As a board-certified Family Medicine physician and the founder of an LGBTQ-owned digital practice, I, Dr. Mia Guzman (she/her), am deeply committed to dismantling the barriers that marginalized individuals face when seeking healthcare. Having spent over a decade working in traditional hospital and clinic settings across Texas, I repeatedly witnessed how standard medical environments can alienate LGBTQ+ patients through rushed appointments, implicit bias, and lack of trauma-informed communication.
I am a patient, too, and I understand the profound vulnerability it takes to seek help, particularly for mental health or weight management. I actively dreaded the ordeal of traditional medicine—the waiting rooms, the repetitive questioning, and the fear of judgment. This lived experience and my identity as part of the community fundamentally shaped my clinical perspective. I believe that healthcare must be affirming, accessible, and completely free of friction.
To solve this, I transitioned my focus to a 100% virtual, asynchronous care model specifically designed to provide a safe, highly responsive environment for patients across Texas. By communicating directly via messaging, my patients never have to worry about the anxiety of a waiting room or the stress of scheduling. They receive continuous, compassionate care tailored entirely to their pace and comfort level.
Specific LGBTQ+ Services & Scope of Practice:
My primary clinical focus is providing a radically affirming space for primary mental health care and medically supervised weight management. I specialize in treating:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder & Major Depressive Disorder: Providing trauma-informed medication management and continuous support for patients who may have previously felt dismissed by the healthcare system.
ADHD Care: Delivering structured, non-judgmental treatment plans that validate the unique ways neurodivergence presents within the LGBTQ+ community.
Medically Supervised Weight Management: Offering weight management from a health-first, weight-inclusive perspective that is fiercely protective against the anti-fat bias and body-shaming often experienced by queer and trans individuals in standard clinical settings.
General Telemedicine: Addressing everyday medical needs with the assurance that the patient’s identity, pronouns, and relationship dynamics will be unequivocally respected.
Gender-Affirming Care: Delivering respectful, informed, and highly accessible medical support and care navigation, ensuring patients can manage their health journeys without the friction or gatekeeping often found in traditional clinic settings.
