Michael Giffen, DO

I came to Dr Giffen almost 2 years ago to being my ftm transition. I was excited and worried but I felt ready for it. I was also worried I’d have to wait a long while to get HRT but to my surprise I got it the same day of my initial appointment. I have had bad experiences with doctors in the past and was worried this would be another one that would refuse to listen to me and shrug off any concerns I had. But Dr. Giffen is by far the best doctor I’ve ever seen. No matter how small my issues are he feels welcoming and reassuring. He’s helped me on my transition journey and general health as well. I suffer from anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and depression and we worked together to find out better meds for my ailments.

I recently changed employers and needed to select a new PCP due to insurance changes.  I spent some time looking for a provider who specializes in LGBTQI populations and selected Dr. Giffin.  I am so glad I did.  As a middle-aged HIV+ (for 20 years) gay man he is only one of a handful of medical providers that treated me with the utmost respect and understanding.  Beyond that he is incredibly knowledgeable in his field.   He recommends testing that no other provider had ever suggested for sexual health concerns.  I never feel rushed during appointments.

He is also up-to-date on weight management.  As a larger bodied person, I have experienced providers in the past that are fatphobic and often rude about my size.  Dr. Giffin is working with me and the weight management program through my employer so that I can receive weight management medications, nutrition coaching, and exercise coaching to address my lifelong battle with weight loss.

He’s just amazing.  I have had excellent NPs, MDs, DOs, in the past but none of them are as approachable or caring.  I cannot say enough things about Dr. Giffin.

I appreciate his pace. He never seems to be in a rush and really listens to you. I started HRT with him and have recommended him to countless friends. Friends who weren’t getting anywhere with other providers were taken care of by him. It is so comforting to know that there are providers out there with his qualities for our community. I also had the opportunity to shadow him for a day and watched one by one as he saw patients with varying needs, consistent with his approach all day: he listened intently, then provided different avenues for care, and never rushed any interaction.  Make an appointment with him and see for yourself!
