I believe every person has the potential for change. I have witnessed powerful healing and growth in my presence. Being a therapist is truly a gift and I feel privileged to help everyone who steps into my office. I believe that therapy should be a safe space that will always remain confidential. I believe that therapeutic relationships are naturally healing. And even though what we talk about is important, I know that the relationship itself does a lot of the work. While I believe that depression and sadness is a natural part of life, I don’t think it should impact your daily living, when it does that when it becomes “disordered”. People often struggle with great shame and guilt surrounding mental health, navigating LGBTQ+ issues and caring for oneself. When I was younger, I had a hard time being honest and congruent with how I felt inside. And that is what initially attracted me to this work. I believe that being free from fear and shame is a human right.
As a queer person growing up in the conservative South, I have experienced firsthand my own share of discrimination, bigotry and hate and sometimes that hatred came from within. Compass of Carolina offers a sliding scale, so regardless of income or insurance- YOU can receive help too. I have a great passion for mental health and an even greater passion to help my own LBGTQ+ community. I have experience working with transgender youth, navigating identity, and families. I want to help break stigmas surrounding mental health, especially within the LGBTQ+ community.
I have over 10 years of experience working with folx in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatry, private practice and outpatient group practice. I work from an eclectic framework, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). I feel that when we can first identify thoughts, feelings and behaviors, we can then understand how to respond in ways that bring about positive change.
If you are fed up with feeling bad and you’re ready to feel relief, I want you to contact me so that we can work together to create a better life for you.
