Hi, my name is Seth, and I am a queer therapist – both in how I practice and my personal identity. My areas of speciality focus on non-traditional relationships, polyamory, kink, disability and chronic illness, sexuality, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and the many ways those identities intersect.
Currently, I work with several other therapists in my community who volunteer their time to PRISM: A LGBTQIA+ Support Group for Teens in the Tri-Cities and a related parent support group, both of which are free to the public. I also serve on the board of the Pride Community Center of Johnson City, who serves the community in a number of ways, such as hosting an adult trans support group, AA and NA groups within the center, sponsoring the Rainbows (queer intramural softball team), putting on the yearly Rainbow Festival, and number of other initiatives. The LGBTQIA+ community is one I am very passionate about, and am working to support wherever possible.
The LGBTQIA+ community is important to me because I belong to it as a gay man; however, I understand my identity provides me with a lot of privilege and I cannot fully know the experiences of others in the community. To that end, I seek to support clients as they discuss and work through their experiences – but do not expect them to educate me. You are fully welcome to point out if you feel I lack understanding or knowledge of a relevant topic, but I will gladly do the work of correcting that and do not expect you to carry that mental load.
