Hi, my name is Tori Corbett. It can be damn hard to find the right fit in a therapist. I’m a cisgender, plurisexual, non monogamous woman, a recovering perfectionist, who grew up Catholic. I ingested guilt as a first language, learned people pleasing at a young age, and spent a lot of my life trying to prove my value by “doing,” instead of “being.” All that said, I’ve spent quite a bit of time looking for therapists I felt could understand me and help me turn down the volume of my anxiety.
We all have inner crap we’ve ingested throughout our lives. Criticisms and lack of acceptance from others we end up internalizing, that can crush our spirits, and burn us out: Picked on or picked last. “Too sensitive.” “Too much.” “Not enough” (not smart enough, gay enough, not… fill in the blanks enough.).
Therapy is not sitting around gazing at your navel – it’s and investment of finances, time, and hard work. I see it like a puzzle – exploring and getting to know thoughts and beliefs that helped you survive, but are not longer serving your life.. Over and over, I’ve seen clients get in touch their their own, authentic inner voice, revitalize a zest for life, and start making choices for themselves – NOT to please others.
About my training:
I’ve been a licensed clinician since 1999. I’ve worked in community based agencies, at the Johnson Unit in Eugene, an in patient psychiatric setting, and have been in private practice since 2013. I approach therapy with a feminist trauma informed lens, am trained in family systems, and passionate about internal family systems, where we get to know all parts of ourselves. I work with people who’ve been in therapy before, and it helped, but are ready to throw themselves wholeheartedly into the deep dive healing process, and create a life worth living.
