I identify as a Black, autistic, non-binary lesbian. Throughout my career and even before pursuing a career in mental health counseling, I have always been a dedicated advocate, activist, and organizer to my community. In high school, I led my high school’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) for 2 years – planning lessons on comprehensive sex education, LGBTQIA+ history, and advocacy for students. In college at my alma mater of Elon University, I became a student assistant at Elon’s Gender and LGBTQIA+ Center. As a student staff member, I developed programming including research presentations about the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identity and race and ethnicity, vigils for victims of anti-trans violence, and social events for the campus community. As an out and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I wanted to advocate for my fellow students and serve as a visible reminder that queer and trans students were valued on a majority cisgender and straight campus. In my graduate studies as a pre-licensed professional, I served as a counselor in training, working with LGBTQIA+ students of all backgrounds, races, cultures, and identities at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Now, as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, I hope to continue working with LGBTQIA+ populations in Durham, NC at Healings Arts, PLLC.
