Hello! I’m Blas Valenzuela (He/Him/They/Them), a clinical psychologist and affirmative psychologist, delighted to meet you! Originally from the Dominican Republic, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding and supporting mental health from an inclusive and affirmative perspective.
My professional journey led me to complete my psychology studies at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC). Later on, I delved into the wonderful world of psychological therapy, specializing in working with children and adolescents at the Universidad Miguel Hernández in Spain.
For me, learning never stops. That’s why I embarked on an additional journey of knowledge, obtaining expertise in Affirmative Psychology at the Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de Madrid, Spain, and continuing my education at The Affirmative Couch. I firmly believe that continuous education is key to offering the best possible support to my patients and their families.
In my practice, I offer a safe and welcoming space for children, adolescents, and adults seeking support in their mental well-being. My affirmative approach involves not only understanding and respecting the diversity of identities and experiences but also actively working to celebrate and empower each individual.
A special part of my work is accompanying families with LGBTIQA+ children and adolescents on their journey toward understanding and acceptance. I believe in the importance of providing support not only to those directly in therapy but also to their loved ones, helping them fully understand and embrace the authenticity of their loved ones.
I take into account each patient’s individuality, considering their intersecting identities and the dynamics of oppression they may have experienced. Understanding that each person’s journey is unique and shaped by various factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, and socioeconomic status, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that honors and validates their lived experiences. My approach is rooted in cultural humility and social justice, working collaboratively with my patients to navigate the complexities of their identities and the impact of systemic inequalities on their mental health and well-being.
In addition to my clinical practice, I also serve as a university lecturer, sharing my passion and knowledge with the next generation of mental health professionals. I offer psychological assessments and affirmative therapy both in-person and virtually, in Spanish and English, to ensure that everyone can access the support they need, regardless of barriers.
I look forward to accompanying you on your journey to mental and emotional well-being. Thank you for considering my practice as part of your path to a fuller and more authentic life!
