I am originally from Kansas and earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from St. Louis University. I have worked at psychiatric hospitals, the VA, in community mental health, as a college instructor, and in private practice over the past 30 years. I provide Compassionate Psychological Care for adolescents/adults/seniors of all identities, ethnicities, and cultures.
I have an empathic, supportive style and often use cognitive behavioral strategies, offer “homework” or reading assignments, and assist in exploring any underlying issues that may be preventing you from enjoying a more fulfilling life. I work collaboratively with you, while you set the pace and direction in therapy. I will gently challenge you to take on new perspectives and help you to develop more effective coping skills. Besides my experience working with the LGBTQ+ community, I have participated in and continue to pursue more formal trainings: LGBTQ+ Mental Health; Caring for the LGBTQ+ Community; Helping Families with Coming Out, Coming Home; and Cultural Competency with Diverse Families.
I am a trauma-informed psychologist specializing in Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Anxiety, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Binge Eating, Assertiveness, Codependency, Stress Management, Multicultural Issues, and LGBTQ+ Issues.
