Hello, I’m Samantha Davis, Licensed Massage Therapist and owner of Louisville Prenatal Massage. I have over 14 years of experience in the field of massage therapy, and specialize in the treatment of chronic pain, prenatal, postpartum, and infant massage. As a queer, cis-gendered woman, I work to create a safe space that is not only inclusive of the LGBTQ+ experience, but affirming. I understand what kind of mental and emotional gymnastics it can take to find a wellness/healthcare provider that respects who you are.
I work to cultivate a warm and inviting treatment space, using person-first and trauma-informed language, and I employ communication techniques that foster informed consent, and respected boundaries. Some of the ways I support my LGBTQ+ clients are: I ask for preferred pronouns on my intake form, and respect them. I use additive and inclusive language, such as: women and pregnant people, and breastfeeding and chestfeeding. I also maintain a robust referral network including lactation, pelvic floor PT, mental health, etc. which includes LGBTQ+ inclusive providers, so all of my clients can get a referral for additional care should they need it, from a provider who will affirm who they are, and their family.
I aim to take trans-inclusive courses as much as possible when choosing continuing education. This helps me to provide a higher standard of care to all LGBTQ+ clients. Some of the trans-inclusive courses I’ve taken recently include:
Pre- & Perinatal Massage Therapy by Body Therapy Education
Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss by Inviting Abundance
LGBTQ+ Affirming Healthcare Series by University of Louisville
and reading “Supporting Queer Birth” by AJ Silver
I look forward to supporting you and your family!
