Using she/her pronouns, I am a trained pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist. I provide primary care to all youth aged 11-21, serve as a primary care provider for many LGBTQ youth inclusive of transgender youth and partner with our gender affirming clinic for youth who may be considering transitioning. I also provide PrEP, PEP, and HIV care services as well as full reproductive services. I’ve completed Safe Zone training, which focuses on helping providers develop skills to be more powerful and effective LGBTQ allies and advocates. I’ve also completed cultural humility, trauma informed, and emotional intelligence trainings.
I’ve received awards in Diversity and Inclusion as well as Birmingham Black Pride’s 2021 Leadership Award for my care of same gender loving Black men with HIV.
I also engage in research with and focused on improving PrEP uptake and use among young people 14-24 in rural and urban settings within Alabama and support trainees with the research including a study focused on the impacts of trans gender legislation on trans gender youth behavior and the experiences of LGBTQ residents at a large Southern academic institution.
Finally, my affiliation with an academic center has allowed me to improve the diversity of the healthcare workforce as I’ve been the faculty liaison for MedPride- a LGBTQ affirming resident organization.
