My background is in public health, having worked at the CDC in Atlanta for 22 years. Since 2012, I have been practicing addiction medicine in an outpatient setting. While I loved public health, addiction medicine is the most rewarding work I have ever done. I am board certified in addiction medicine and serve as the medical director for our site.
Addiction is not hopeless. People with substance use disorders can get better and lead the lives they want. Every day, we celebrate periods of sobriety, reunited families, employment and other accomplishments that are important to those we see. And, when times are tough, we are here for support and reassurance. We practice a harm reduction model and understand that addiction is a chronic, relapsing illness. If you have a “slip” or relapse, we will welcome you back. We offer Suboxone (buprenorphine); Sublocade and Brixadi (injectable monthly buprenorphine); and naltrexone (oral tablets and Vivitrol, the monthly injectable formulation). Substance use counseling is available and encouraged. We are located in Western Mass, an area notable for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community. We proudly care for those n the LGBTQ+ community who have substance or alcohol use disorders.
LGBTQ+ individuals are known to have higher rates of substance and alcohol use disorders. Everyone in our office suspends judgments to care for our patients in a supportive environment.
