Hi all! I’m Afsha Merchant, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, wellness coach, artist, and holistic wellness practitioner passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, connected, and empowered.
My journey in mental health and wellness began at Western Illinois University, where I was recognized on the Dean’s List and received the Legacy Scholarship. I continued my graduate education at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where I also received the Legacy Scholarship. These experiences helped shape my commitment to lifelong learning, service, and creating meaningful opportunities for others.
My passion for culturally responsive work has also been shaped by my experiences abroad. While studying at Western Illinois University, I studied abroad in Spain and later had the opportunity to teach English there. Immersing myself in Spanish-speaking communities deepened my appreciation for language, culture, and the importance of cultural connection. These experiences have continued to influence my work and contributed to my strong connection to and involvement within the Latine community.
As a mental health professional, I’m committed to making wellness more inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive. My work centers on supporting BIPOC communities and individuals navigating trauma, neurodivergence, life transitions, relationships, and the many layers of identity and cultural experiences that shape our mental and emotional well-being.
My clinical approach integrates talk therapy with behavioral and body-based practices, drawing from person-centered, solution-focused, CBT, DBT, and somatic approaches. I believe healing is not one-size-fits-all and that mental wellness can be supported through reflection, creativity, movement, mindfulness, and connection.
Beyond my clinical work, I’m a creative entrepreneur, artist, and event project manager who loves bringing people together through meaningful experiences. I organize and support events designed to unite people from all backgrounds, incorporating creativity, wellness, and community into the experiences I create. I also host wellness experiences, including sound bath meditations, that encourage people to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and make intentional space for self-care.
At the heart of my work is a belief that everyone deserves opportunities to feel connected—to themselves, to their communities, and to experiences that support their overall well-being.
