I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist working in Washington state, USA. I work with adults 18 years old and older. I came to nutrition after my own celiac (coeliac) disease diagnosis and have been gluten-free since 2006. I earned my Masters in Nutrition, Didactic Degree in Dietetics in 2013. I spent an academic year internship at Sea Mar Community Health Centers in Seattle Washington and subsequently worked there as a Dietitian for 3 years. I loved the opportunity to work with traditionally underserved communities and offered Medical Nutrition Therapy in English and Spanish.
I continue to expanded my clinical and practical knowledge working with people with complex gastrointestinal issues. My special area of interest is helping people work with their own GI and complex medical conditions, nutrition & food needs like texture or smell sensitivities, selective eating, and supporting the self-feeding relationship.
I am a certified Gastrointestinal Nutritionist with advanced training in the FODMAP protocol and SIBO management, and work with patients across the gastrointestinal condition spectrum including: eosinophilic issues like eosinophilic esophagitis/eosinophilic gastritis, food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances, ulcerative conditions like ulcerative colitis, pancolitis, lymphocitic colitis, microscopic colitis, Crohn’s disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, acid reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, hiatal hernias, celiac disease, gastroparesis, pancreatic insufficiency, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, postural orthostatic tochycardia syndrome (POTS), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), lactose intolerance, histamine intolerance, candida overgrowth, and plain ol’ transit disorders like constipation and diarrhea, post-surgical complications, etc.
I love helping a person understand their medical condition, and how different foods and nutrition choices impact their wellness. For example: creating a personalized food plan for someone with gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome, and history of diverticulitis; or working closely with a Gastroenterology team to help a person identify their individual food triggers in Eosinophilic Esophagitis; and supporting people with HRT to manage bone health and body confidence.
I approach care from an all-bodies-belong perspective and help people to meet their own health and wellness goals – I am not a weight based provider and will not set weight-oriented goals with patients because I don’t believe it supports body acceptance (and in my experience weight-based goals don’t align with physiology!) I do work with patients to learn new ways to love their body, live in their body, care for their body, and deepen their self-acceptance while enhancing health and whole-life wellness.
I work to actively not make assumptions about living situation, financial situation, and relationship status so I start visits with checking on what if any access a person has to kitchen or food storage and preparation space, access to groceries and other food options, and with whom one shares meals including for people in multiple relationships where each may affect the food choices made.
I also have a special interest in helping people on the neurodiversity spectrum who want to expand their dietary intake through finding foods of similar mouth-feel, texture, smell, sight, and eating experience, and, dare I say, sometimes even expand their food options beyond that.
I see my role as a Dietitian as the food and nutrition expert, the guide on this part of your life path. You are the expert on you! I trust you know your body, what is right for you, and we work to meet your health and wellness targets, not mine, not your doctors, not your partners for you, the ones you truly want. I have seen in my patients that with this comes an enormous amount of liberation and sense of control over your own health journey, and I am honored every time someone invites me to walk alongside them as their guide for a month, a year, or just a day.
Thanks for reading and if you think this may be a good connection for your own health journey, I look forward to meeting you to see if we may be a good fit to work together!
