I am proud to provide not only affirming, but celebratory care to all of my LGBTQIA+ identifying clients. My therapy office is a safe space for all clients to receive counseling services that are respectful of their individual needs and identities. With over a decade of direct counseling experience, I have had MANY clients that identify as gay, lesbian, non-binary, transgender, bi-sexual, and other queer identities. I work often with parents and other family members whose loved one has recently shared about their true self, including those reconciling faith beliefs. Additionally, I work with same sex and queer couples, as well as individuals practicing polyamory.
Your care extends from your sessions with me to my entire team. My office administrator is a huge LGBTQIA+ ally and a “Mama Bear,” and together we ensure that the pre-licensed professionals working with us receive additional training on cultural humility and providing the highest level of care to the LGBTQIA+ Community. We also encourage LGBTQIA+ identifying students pursuing master’s degrees in mental health to apply to be part of our Counseling Internship program, so they have a safe and celebratory practice in which to grow.
Our new client intake documents include “open ended” spaces for clients to self-identify gender and pronouns, as well as an invitation to share preferred names. We understand the incongruences that can occur between preferred pronouns and names and insurance benefits, and we will work carefully to help avoid/remedy any issues. We also work with uninsured or out of network clients as much as possible to provide a reduced private pay rate or sliding scale.
