Hello! I’m Joe, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in Minnesota. I also proudly identify as a cisgender gay man, and I believe that creating affirming, inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals is both a professional commitment and a deeply personal one.
I earned my Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health from the University of Minnesota and have experience working with adults navigating a wide range of mental health and substance use concerns. Much of my clinical background includes providing care in residential treatment settings serving LGBTQ+ individuals, where I developed specialized experience supporting clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, identity exploration, trauma, and the unique challenges that can accompany minority stress. These experiences continue to shape my approach while reinforcing my commitment to lifelong learning and evidence-based, culturally responsive care.
My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, identity, values, and goals with authenticity. I take an integrative, collaborative approach to therapy, drawing from person-centered, humanistic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy to meet your individual needs. Together, we’ll work to better understand your experiences, build on your strengths, develop practical tools for change, and help you move toward a life that feels more meaningful, connected, and aligned with who you are. My hope is not only to help you navigate life’s challenges, but to empower you to embrace your authentic self with greater confidence, resilience, and self-compassion.
