I’m Kaitlyn McLaughlin Ide, LPC, NCC, CPCS, founder and Clinical Director of TheraRise Counseling & Consulting. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor providing affirming, compassionate telehealth therapy for adults, with particular expertise in LGBTQIA+ mental health and reproductive and family-building journeys.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I understand the importance of receiving care in a space where your identity, relationships, and family are affirmed rather than treated as something that needs to be explained or defended. My clinical work includes supporting LGBTQIA+ adults navigating identity, relationships, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the many ways minority stress can affect mental health and well-being.
Reproductive mental health and family building are also central areas of my work. I support individuals navigating infertility, fertility treatment, donor conception, third-party reproduction, pregnancy, postpartum experiences, parenting, and LGBTQIA+ paths to parenthood. My perspective in this work is informed by both professional expertise and lived experience with LGBTQIA+ family building and fertility treatment.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative, client-centered, and integrative. I draw from evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral, attachment-focused, trauma-informed, and affirming frameworks while tailoring therapy to each client’s experiences, identities, strengths, and goals. I believe effective therapy begins with a relationship in which clients feel respected, genuinely understood, and able to show up as their whole selves.
In addition to providing therapy, I am a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in Georgia and provide clinical supervision to developing counselors. My professional work also includes counselor education, training, research, and consultation, with particular interests in LGBTQIA+ affirming care and reproductive mental health.
I earned my M.S. in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Brenau University and my B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of North Georgia. My undergraduate research examining feminism, gender attitudes, and traditional gender roles resulted in a peer-reviewed publication in Gender Issues. I continue to value research-informed practice and ongoing professional education throughout my clinical and educational work.
My recent professional education and speaking work includes presenting “Affirming Family Building: Counseling LGBTQIA+ Clients on Their Path to Parenthood” at the LPCA of Georgia LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Summit and serving as a mental health expert for Jewish Fertility Foundation’s national “Pathways to Parenthood: The Journey Continues” webinar, an interdisciplinary program addressing LGBTQIA+ family building.
I maintain professional involvement with organizations supporting counseling and reproductive mental health and am committed to advancing accessible, affirming, culturally responsive mental health care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families.
