Hi! I’m Phil Eiseman (they/them), a licensed clinical psychologist who has provided individual therapy to adolescents and adults since 2013. My work focuses on helping people build community and empowerment, especially in hostile personal, social, and political environments. I use a relaxed, conversational approach focused on transparency and helping people find their voice and advocate for their needs within therapy, allowing us to work towards the things that really matter to you.
As a queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent therapist, I’ve learned to connect across differences in identity and perspective. I love meeting new people and getting to know where they’re coming from, both the ways we’re similar and the ways we’re different. I help people understand and honor their core human needs so we can find new ways to meet those needs.
My doctoral research focused on cross-gender relationships and providing new perspectives to understand trans and nonbinary identity. Since then, I have focused on building community, empowerment, and support for queer people. I have cofacilitate therapy groups for trans students. In collaboration with the George Mason University LGBTQ+ Resource Center, I developed All Together Queer, a community space for queer students focused on connection, advocacy, and empowerment.
I believe people heal in community. A major focus of my therapy work is helping people build safe, uplifting relationships that are equipped to support them through personal, social, economic, and political change. When algorithms push us to stay overwhelmed and hopeless or disconnected and detached, I think deep, genuine connections with other people are the main tool we have to build agency, meaning, and joy in our lives.
In my free time, I support local political organizations with conflict resolution, read books about our relationships to culture and the internet, play with my kids, and watch Dropout and YouTube video essays. I’m an active member of the Northern Virginia improv comedy scene.
