I’m a person who identifies as a pansexual Japanese American. I love games, media, art, nature, and animals. I firmly believe that people should be comfortable with who they are and pursue things they love. Working with LGBTQ+ community is something that is personal to me because I feel I’m a part of this community. Growing up as a queer Asian really opened my eyes to how isolating it can be without lack of validation, visibility, education and shared community. Even in grad school I worked on a research project relating to lack of mental health in Asian communities and it made me realize how much more scarce it is in API LGBTQ+ communities. Because of that I created the API LGBTQ+ support group at my LGBTQ+ Center when I was a trainee. Speaking of that I started my experience in mental health working with LGBT Center OC in practicum work. It was the site I wanted the most. I was able to gain so much experience and insight from my supervisors and dive into my own education to further help my clients. I learned at my time about trans health and how to write proper HRT letters for insurances, help support trans youth and adults, work with LGBTQ+ couples, learn a lot about crossover. As I graduated and became an associate I started in a group practice and during my time gaining my hours I continued my growth and education working with LGBTQ+ community. I got QTAP certified (Queer and Transaffirming Affirming Professional) and worked with more diverse people and did a lot of my own research and education in my own time. I love being a safe space to help trans and gender nonconfirming people, BIPOC, Neurodiverse, and other diverse people find ways to better their lives and what they want for themselves and how to navigate the struggles of society. Even understanding my own neurodivergency as an ADHD person helped me understand and help other neurodiverse people navigate their experiences along with other crossover identities. I also love working in creative aspects with clients such as art or their own passions such as games or hobbies that connect with their identities and communities. I will continue to keep educating myself and help others in the field of mental health as I want to work hard to help people improve their lives.
